About
Welcome to Providence PCA!
Welcome:
We are pleased that you have found us, and hope that your visit to our web site will be profitable to you. Please explore around and check out what we have to offer. And come and visit us sometime; we would like to get to know you.
We are a group of Christians defined by what God has done, and is doing in our lives. We want to know Him better, worship Him, and serve Him by loving and serving one another, just as He loved and served us in His Son, Jesus Christ.
Who are we?
We are a people redeemed by God’s grace. Like the whole human race, we are sinners who have fallen far short of the glory of God, and desperately need God’s Grace and Salvation. This we have come to know through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Consequently, we are now His people under His authority, conveyed to us through His Word, the Scriptures. It is through the Holy Spirit’s working through that Word in our hearts, that we come to know Christ in a saving way, that we grow in our relationship with Him, and that we are made useful to Him in serving and reaching others for Him.
So we seek to be “people of the Book”. God’s Word is the common denominator in our shared life together as Providence PCA. It is central in our worship, our teaching classes, our weekly meetings, and, by desire and intent, in our personal lives.
Near the end of Acts 2, Scripture portrays four characteristics of the early believers in active community together. In our life together at Providence, we also seek to reflect these primary traits of the early Christian church.
-
One is Worship, in which we seek to give praise, glory and gratitude to God, bringing Him His due, for He is worthy. (This is a vertical dimension, focused on us looking upward.)
-
A second characteristic of our life in Christ is our walk of Discipleship, by which we become careful students of God’s Word, seeking to know, understand, and practice God’s will for our lives. (This is a vertical dimension, pointing downward, as God the Spirit teaches and instructs us.)
-
Fellowship is the third characteristic whereby believers practice and enjoy their shared life in the Spirit of Christ and the Father. Here we enjoy talking about the things of God; here we serve one another as “members of the same Body, whose Head is Christ”; here we seek to “stir one another up to love and good works”. (This is a horizontal dimension directed toward fellow Christians.}
-
From these characteristics of our life in Christ flows a fourth: Outreach. We have been blessed to be a blessing; we have been given, so that we might give. As God has sent His Good News to us, so He desires to use us to bring Good News to others. This encompasses all forms of Word and Deed Witness to those who do not yet know Jesus as Savior and Lord. (This is a horizontal dimension pointing outward.)
As a gathering of Christians at Providence PCA, we seek to experience and practice this Biblical pattern of life together. If this is where your heart is at, we welcome your participation. If it is not where your heart is at yet, but you sense God calling you to search these things out, you are very welcome among us.
