Worship
What does Providence’s worship look like? There are many ways that this question could be answered, but at the very least our worship is aimed at being Biblical, Reverent, and Joyful.
Biblical
The first question that people ask when they are looking for a church today is, “What kind of worship do you have?” It is usually the “style” of music that the inquirer is asking about. However, that is putting the cart before the horse. It matters very little what “style” of worship a church has if that worship is not rooted in truth. The Bible is God’s revelation of Himself to us and it also informs us as to what He desires from His people. Therefore, Providence strives to be a church that has worship which is biblical. What does that mean? It means that our worship services are filled with the Word of God and aim in every respect at being true to the teaching of the Bible. This is crucial, because this is how God has chosen to communicate with His children. Thus, we are committed to having biblical worship.
Reverent
If our worship is biblical it must also be reverent. The Bible teaches us that the God whom we are worshipping is the Creator and Sustainer of all things, is holy, and is set-apart. And when we embark upon worship we are entering into the very presence of this God. Therefore, our worship should be reverent. Reverent worship is nothing more than giving God due respect, honor, and adoration. This is fitting and right. Unfortunately, when we think of “reverence,” it is cold and stiff formalism that often comes to mind. But this is not reverence. Reverent worship is God-honoring worship that is marked by a high-view of God and is wedded to a heart that is overflowing in love and adoration to Him. True reverent worship is worship in which the mind and heart are tied together in adoring God. We are committed to being reverent in our worship.
Joyful
Worship that is biblical and reverent must also be worship that is marked by joy. In worship we are hearing the promises of God, meeting with Him, fellowshipping with one another, singing songs of adoration and praise, confessing our belief in this glorious God, and offering prayers to Him. How could we ever truly worship without joy? Worship that is biblical and reverent must also be worship that is joyful! When one understands the truths of the Bible and those truths resonate in one’s very soul, joy naturally follows. And when one has a high-view of God which leads them to reverence, there should be an eruption of joy when they are worshipping that God. We are committed to being joyful in our worship.
Having said all of this…what will you find when you visit Providence? You will find worship that is Biblical, reverent, and joyful. Consider joining us to hear Biblical truth from our God and to offer reverent and joyful praise and prayer unto Him.
What is Worship?
Worship is the very reason for our creation. All that exists was created for the worship and glory of God. However, when we use the word, “worship,” we are often referring to the gathering of the church on Sunday morning. This is what we label “corporate worship.”
The church is gathered corporately together to worship God. Our corporate worship is the very pinnacle and climax of our fellowship together. And so on Sunday mornings we gather with other Christians, but it is not only them that we are meeting with; we are also meeting with the one, true, and living God. Therefore, it should not only be the pinnacle of our fellowship, but the very high-point of our week. How could it be anything else? We are meeting with God! Or better stated, He is choosing to meet with us. Therefore, as we assemble together, worship should be a reverent and joyful experience that is centered upon God. We are truly communing with Him by His Word and by His Spirit. We are offering praise to Him and He is ministering to us. He is binding our wounds, encouraging us in the things of godliness, exhorting us to live for Him, and pouring out His love upon us. And all the while, we are offering glory, honor, and praise to Him. We were all created to worship.
Consider joining us for worship this upcoming Sunday.
