How We Worship
What does Providence’s worship look like? There are many ways that this question could be answered, but at the very least our worship is aimed at being Biblical, Reverent, and Joyful.
Biblical
The first question that people ask when they are looking for a church today is, “What kind of worship do you have?” It is usually the “style” of music that the inquirer is asking about. However, that is putting the cart before the horse. It matters very little what “style” of worship a church has if that worship is not rooted in truth. The Bible is God’s revelation of Himself to us and it also informs us as to what He desires from His people. Therefore, Providence strives to be a church that has worship which is biblical. What does that mean? It means that our worship services are filled with the Word of God and aim in every respect at being true to the teaching of the Bible. This is crucial, because this is how God has chosen to communicate with His children. Thus, we are committed to having biblical worship.
Reverent
If our worship is biblical it must also be reverent. The Bible teaches us that the God whom we are worshipping is the Creator and Sustainer of all things, is holy, and is set-apart. And when we embark upon worship we are entering into the very presence of this God. Therefore, our worship should be reverent. Reverent worship is nothing more than giving God due respect, honor, and adoration. This is fitting and right. Unfortunately, when we think of “reverence,” it is cold and stiff formalism that often comes to mind. But this is not reverence. Reverent worship is God-honoring worship that is marked by a high-view of God and is wedded to a heart that is overflowing in love and adoration to Him. True reverent worship is worship in which the mind and heart are tied together in adoring God. We are committed to being reverent in our worship.
Joyful
Worship that is biblical and reverent must also be worship that is marked by joy. In worship we are hearing the promises of God, meeting with Him, fellowshipping with one another, singing songs of adoration and praise, confessing our belief in this glorious God, and offering prayers to Him. How could we ever truly worship without joy? Worship that is biblical and reverent must also be worship that is joyful! When one understands the truths of the Bible and those truths resonate in one’s very soul, joy naturally follows. And when one has a high-view of God which leads them to reverence, there should be an eruption of joy when they are worshipping that God. We are committed to being joyful in our worship.
Having said all of this…what will you find when you visit Providence? You will find worship that is Biblical, reverent, and joyful. Consider joining us to hear Biblical truth from our God and to offer reverent and joyful praise and prayer unto Him.
